Curriculum Intent
‘’Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” Matthew 13:32
We are a very small rural school with high expectations and big aspirations for all our learners. We celebrate differences within our school community, and recognise every child as unique ready to fulfil their potential, regardless of their starting point. We love taking our learning outside and opportunities to do so are woven through our careful planning.
Our curriculum celebrates our local context, and we create outward looking pupils who are able to engage in learning about themselves, and understand the wider world and its complex cultures. We plan our curriculum so that our children learn more, know more and remember more.
Our curriculum intends to:
- Develop our head and body: What we learn
- Develop our hearts and character: Who we are
- Develop our actions and attitudes: How we live and learn
- Develop our strong moral compass: Where we fit in the world.
We review our curriculum regularly, and it is designed to: provide first-hand learning experiences, recognise children’s prior learning, allow our children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, confident, critical thinkers.
In addition to this, our curriculum provides opportunities to enhance and enrich learning in each year group, as we believe that children should always have hands-on experience, be happy, display a growth mind-set.
Woven throughout our quality first teaching and learning are Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction. These ensure that the needs of all learners are met, and the substantive and disciplinary knowledge that our children acquire can be used throughout their education, and help them to build on their prior learning both inside and outside the classroom.
